On Thursday 21st. November Redditch Circle hosted their annual Mastermind Competition. A good turnout of 7 circles, all bringing their own competitor, led to a very successful & enjoyable evening. Brother Adrian was as usual responsible for collating all the questions, giving each contestant 2 minutes to answer general knowledge questions covering a wide range of topics. He was assisted by VP Nicholas & time keeper John. There were some very high scores but the clear winner was Peter Finkal of Stratford upon Avon circle. Provincial President Paul Clancy presented Peter with the winners cup. A special category was included for Liam Kane who answered questions about his school, Ampleforth, he was presented with a bottle of beer with instructions not to drink it before his 18th. birthday in December!!! We expect to enrol Liam into our circle at our January BURNS NIGHT meeting. This is a Ladies Formal Evening on Friday 17th January which will be attended by our National President Phil Brown.

On Friday the 25th October at the Navigation Inn, battle commenced between Stratford upon Avon and Redditch circles, for the Tony Pate Skittles Challenge Cup. Skittles went flying and after a hard fought first round the teams were equal. Redditch drew ahead in the second round and held their own in the final round. We all enjoyed a good supper, good fun and excellent Catenian friendship

Brothers, wives, friends & family from Redditch, together with Brothers from Kidderminster, supported Lintu Tom from St. Augustine’s High School in Redditch. She represented Province 6 in the final of the Public Speaking Competition held in Manchester on Sunday 8th September. Although she didn’t win she gave a fantastic performance and we are very proud of her. Our thanks to St. Augustine’s High School for providing their school mini-bus to take us to Manchester. This was a very interesting & exciting afternoon & well worth the trip to Manchester. For those of you who missed the area final at Dudley or the national final I recomend you to experience this next year.
Even our driver enjoyed himself All 16 contestants. Lintu is back row left.

The Redditch Catenians and families visited the BBC studios in The Birmingham Mailbox on Saturday 24th August. We enjoyed a very interesting tour of the studios, which included Midlands Today, BBC radio and the famous and fascinating studio where The Archers are recorded. It was a really good experience to see behind the scenes, and indeed the ‘red sofa’ for real. The Archers studio was of particular interest, telling us how the listeners are very quick to contact them, if they got something wrong, like the incorrect sound effect. They are celebrating their 70th year, which I believe is a record breaker. We finished by performing our own episode of The Archers, unfortunately they were not interested in taking our details for future work. Bob Conner had an interview some years ago, but sadly did not get accepted, because he rustled his script! Some of us then enjoyed a lovely lunch at The Cafe Rouge, overlooking the canal, before returning home some by car and some by train, a great day, enjoyed by us all. Thanks to our VP Bro Nicholas who took all the pictures, which of course is why he isn’t on any of them!
