Front:  Alan Smith, Paul Clancy, Danny Wright, John Minister, Steve Brain

Stourbridge Circle’s 600th meeting on Wednesday, 11 March took place not at its usual venue but at the impressively appointed Himley Hall in Dudley. There were visitors aplenty and the VIP guest was Bishop David McGough. Unusually for such an occasion, the dress was informal (and none the worse for that). A good meal was enjoyed by all, as were the speeches (not least because they did not go on too long!

Annual Mass for the Deceased Brothers and Ladies of Province 6

Annual Mass for the Deceased Brothers and Ladies of Province 6

On Saturday 3 November, over 200 members of the Catenian Association attended the Annual Requiem Mass at St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham, accompanied with their wives and families. Before Mass began, Provincial President Danny McAree read out a memorial list of all members and ladies who had died in the last 12 months.

Mass was celebrated by Bishop Robert Byrne, supported by three Catenian Deacons, with a team of altar servers from many parts of the Diocese. A beautifully balanced quintet of voices, accompanied by David Saint on the Cathedral organ, lead the congregation in the psalm and hymns. Bishop Robert gave a warming homily, reminding the congregation of the lifetime values in strengthening family life through friendship and faith.

After Mass there was an enjoyable celebration with light refreshments in the Grimshaw Room, where there were many “remember when” conversations and happy memories.
