Last year’s president of Malvern Circle, Bro Nick Bannister, presented a cheque for £650 to his presidential charity, Young Epilepsy, together with a cheque for £100 which had been raised by the wives of the Circle’s Brothers.
The cheques were handed over to Martha Knight, Young Epilepsy’s Individual Engagement Executive, who thanked the Malvern Catenians and their wives for their generosity
Young Epilepsy cares for young people up to the age of 25 who suffer from severe epilepsy. About 700 staff are required to look after the 100 young people at the centre. The number of people under the age of 25 in the UK with epilepsy is around 112,000, with 1 in 5 having learning or intellectual disabilities.
Of the 1,150 deaths from epilepsy 10 years ago, about 10 per cent were young people under the age of 25.
