70 members of Province 6 gathered at St Chad’s Cathedral in Birmingham at noon last Saturday, 6 November, while innumerable others participated via live stream from their homes. The occasion was the annual Requiem Mass for the Deceased Brothers and Ladies of Province 6. Co-ordinated by Brother Provincial Secretary, it was a real team effort: the Cathedral Dean, Mgr Timothy Menezes, and his team spared no efforts to facilitate our arrangements and make us welcome; Bishop David Evans was the principal celebrant; Anne Tibke and Cathedral Organist, Professor David Saint led us in song; and the readers, deacons, and servers were all Catenians.
Our main photo shows Provincial President Jim Gillen with Bishop David Evans. Brother Jim read the Old Testament reading and Brother Vice President Andrew Bodger read the New Testament epistle. Deacon Daniel Hurd proclaimed the Gospel.
Next year, this Mass will take place on Saturday, 5 November — as always, on the first Saturday of that month.
